Egg-sharing

Lesbian and single women eligibility

The LWC welcomes all women – heterosexual or lesbian, single or in a relationship – to the egg-sharing programme. Participants include:

  • Lesbians who are producing eggs but have had no success with intrauterine insemination (IUI)
  • Single women who are producing eggs but have had no success with intrauterine insemination (IUI)
  • Lesbian couples who choose to share eggs, where one woman's eggs are shared between her own partner and an unknown recipient.

Exceptionally high success rates in lesbian egg sharers reflect the fact that lesbian women - unlike their heterosexual counterparts - are usually fertile and are undergoing IVF only because they have no male partner or previous attempts at IUI have been unsuccessful.
